Madison Carlson, Research Assistant

Maddy was born and raised on Treaty 7 territory in the Alberta foothills, where she grew her love for the outdoors through family camping trips, horseback riding, skiing, and hiking. She moved to Victoria in 2019 to pursue a BSc with a double major in Geography and Environmental Studies and is currently completing a co-op placement as a research assistant in the Arctic Landscape Ecology lab where she will be contributing to various projects including monitoring ground temperature and vegetation change. Maddy is passionate about ecology and food systems and has spent a lot of time volunteering on various restoration and monitoring projects and working on organic farms. She is looking forward to gaining GIS and data analysis skills through the lab and being able to apply those skills in the field of conservation ecology. While not in the lab, Maddy can be found dabbling in a variety of activities including backpacking, freediving, climbing, running, and crocheting.
